  1. Obtain a certified copy of the document you need to apostille. This can include birth certificates, marriage certificates, divorce decrees, diplomas, and transcripts.
  2. Take the certified copy of the document to the New York State Department of State’s Division of Licensing Services. The address is 1 Commerce Plaza, 99 Washington Avenue, 6th Floor, Albany, NY 12231.
  3. Complete the required Apostille Request Form, which can be found on the New York State Department of State website.
  4. Pay the required fee. As of 2021, the fee for an apostille is $10 per document.
  5. Wait for the apostille to be processed. The New York State Department of State typically processes apostilles within five business days. You can also request expedited service for an additional fee.
  6. Pick up the apostille in person or have it mailed to you. You can either pick up the apostille in person at the Division of Licensing Services office, or you can have it mailed to you by providing a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
